TOURNAMENT FORMAT

MATCH PLAY DESCRIPTION

Each of the first two portions of team play will count as one “match”. If one team ends up winning with any number of holes to play, the group can go ahead and continue playing on, but no points will be awarded for the final number of holes after the match was decided. The final round of 1v1 play will count as one "match" also.   If the score is all square after the last hole, (36), the previous year's champion will retain the cup.

This tournament is a match play event. While team and then individual scores will be kept in each format, the ultimate winning team will be the group that earns the most holes won, just as it is in the actual Ryder Cup.
Unlike stroke play, in which the unit of scoring is the total number of strokes taken over one or more rounds of golf, match play scoring consists of individual holes won, halved or lost. On each hole, the most that can be gained is one point. Golfers play as normal, counting the strokes taken on a given hole. The golfer with the lowest score on a given hole receives one point. If the golfers tie, then the hole is halved. Once a player is "up" more holes than there are holes remaining to play the match is over. For example, if after 12 holes Player A is 7-up with six left to play, Player A is said to have won the match "7 and 6".

Scramble: Holes 1 - 9

Each player tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. The lowest team score on that hole gets the point. Please pick up if the other team is in with a better score. You may hit within a club length of the other team members original ball placement leading up to the green. You may NOT use the club length to get out of a hazard or bunker. You may change from one cut to another (i.e. rough to fairway) if it is within one club length. On the putting green, the ball is to be placed as near as possible to the original ball position. If you choose to play from a bunker, the bunker may be raked between shots.

Alternate Shot: Holes 10 - 18

One player from each pair will tee off on all odd - numbered holes, with the other player from each pair teeing off on all of the even holes. You alternate tee shots no matter who putted out on the previous hole.  If Player A from a pair hits the ball into a hazard or OB, Player B plays the next shot (proceeding under the appropriate hazard or OB rule). If in a hazard and if pair elects to take a penalty, Player B will be hitting. The lowest score on that hole gets the point for the hole.

Best Ball: Holes 19 - 27

Each pair divided up and is now playing 1 on 1 against a player from the same foursome on the opposing team. Golfers play heads up against a member from the other team, counting the entire number of strokes taken on each hole. The golfer with the lowest score on a given hole receives one point. If the golfers tie, then the hole is halved.

Match Play (1:1): Holes 28 - 36

Each pair divided up and is now playing 1 on 1 against a player from the same foursome on the opposing team. Golfers play heads up against a member from the other team, counting the entire number of strokes taken on each hole. The golfer with the lowest score on a given hole receives one point.
